It was a vacation as a vacation should be. I experienced something new each day and found myself outside my comfort zone
more often than I would like. A day in Stockholm, 5 in Barcelona, 4 in Båstad, 1 in Copenhagen. 3 languages, a million crazy
tourists and one amazing sunset.

I think everyone has
a checklist in the back of their mind as to where they would like to visit if given the chance. Spain, Italy, Greece. This
was my list as of two weeks ago. Being here in Sweden I had the opportunity to fly at somewhat reduced rates and cross one
of the above mentioned countries off my list.
Initially, I planned
to go by my lonesome, but my mother volunteered to accompany me, mainly because I think she thought I might get lost and wander
off into oblivion and also because I think she needed the vacation as well.
The trip was nice
just because our similar interests eliminated the struggle of having to entertain one another. At least I think each
place we went to was of mutual interest. We visited the Gaudi sites (many of which I thought were marvelously ugly), traveled
to a secluded resort called Sitges to lay on the beach all day, scaled the mountain cliffs of Montserrat, dined on the coast,
mastered the train system and drank more Sangria than you can imagine.

Trippin’: Lessons Learned Abroad
· A smile and common sense can overcome any language barrier
· It’s ok to be a tourist some of the time
· A camera can only capture so much
· when you’re hungry don’t experiment
· Just because the beach is topless doesn’t mean that everyone should indulge
· Maps work
· The U.S. dollar isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on
· White pants aren’t for everyone
· I want a house on the beach. This can coincide with the boat I wrote about earlier
· No matter how beautiful the scenery, nothing can replace the comfort of home
